Matthews, Wendy

Deceased.

From Lou Fink (2/10/09)
Wendy grew up across the street from me. I mean directly across the street. When we moved to Livingston in 1954 the Matthews family was already there so I knew her and was friendly with her almost from the day we unpacked. Our close-knit neighborhood was filled with kids from our vintage. We were all friendly with one another. But Wendy and I were the only two kids of the same "class age" from the 20 or so that made up our group. So as we went from Squiretown to Mount Pleasant to Heritage and finally LHS, we always were "on the same page" of life. Many times we walked to school together or caught rides home together from various parental sources. She and I laughed together, fought together and got into different cliques and lost track from time to time. But she was always the pretty girl from across the street. She was NICE, intelligent and very sweet. As life moved on we would run into each other occasionally while visiting our old childhood haunt. We always enjoyed those times and caught up. I'm posting this some five months AFTER the reunion. Why? Well we just got Wendy's obituary from Edwina Mann last week who also knew Wendy well (and also last week got HERSELF off of the Lost List. From this four-year-old obit, detective Fishman located her husband George Bowman, a 1967 LHS grad. I called him last night though we had never met. He confirmed,, as did the obituary, Wendy's many life long accomplishments and dedication to the teaching profession as well as her other passions and past times. We had a great talk about Wendy, her family, Livingston and life. The reunion beat goes on. Ain't it great!!

Mayerick, Nancy

Deceased.

From Karen Goodman (7/8/08)
Nancy and I were lifeguards together for several years in Livingston. We worked primarily at Memorial, sometimes at Northland. I corresponded with her whenever I was out of town (on vacation ? whatever ?) during those high school days. I still have the letters and they remind me of that lovely yet tentative time in our lives when we admired certain boys and what they were up to in town, shared our dreams, fears and day-to-day teenage thoughts. Nancy was a loyal friend, good to the core and I can't imagine why life took her enthusiasm for the simple day to day moments away so soon.

Molinaro, Dan

Deceased.

From Bill Todd (9/11/08)
I am not sure why this date is initiating me to talk about the fun and experiences I had with Dan Molinaro but here goes. I was a co-pilot, as Lou says, with Dan many times and really enjoyed his company and zest for life at such an early age. His Volkswagen was a fearless vehicle so the ride was great. We had some times sort of flying around to different get togethers in that car and met some very nice policeman who helped us. I had the same kind of fun with another classmate, Carl Vidal. Dan had a great heart and personality that made you happy to be with him. However, it was risky business! I never saw Dan again after graduation as I was gone from New Jersey, but I can still remember the fun we had. I am truly sorry that he is not with us.

From Pat Gesek Macaluso (5/20/08)
I got to know Danny because he sat next to me in Accounting class our senior year. He was funny and was always cutting up in class. Senior year was a special time. All the classmates hung out together even if we had girlfriends/boyfriends in other grades. So it came to pass that we spent some time together right around graduation attending yearbook signing parties. At John Collins' yearbook signing party, Danny asked me if I wanted to go for a ride over Cider Hill Golf Course in his VW. Sounded like fun to me so off we went. Little did I know that he actually meant riding “over” the golf course!! He worked there so supposedly he knew where he was going. Right!! We ended up going over quite a drop, also known as a cliff, and there his VW sat, with no way for us to get it out. Well it was time for me to go home so I left him with some friends to solve the problem. I don’t think it went over so well that he drove over the golf course but he probably talked his way out of getting into trouble. Years later, I ran into him down the shore when we were both married with kids in tow. Then we reconnected at the 20th Reunion and met a few times in New York to see some concerts at Carnegie Hall, both of us with respective dates. We lost touch and this is the first I knew that he passed away. How sad but I’m glad that he got his wish to dance at his son’s wedding!

From Lou Fink, Danny's co-pilot to the Junior prom (3/20/08)
Dan was the word "fun." A real joker, music lover, dancer, and clothes horse. He was married for many years to his high school sweetheart, Susan, whose last name escapes me. They had one son, Christopher. A real gentleman with whom I spoke once after Danny's passing. We both exchanged stories about his dad. It was quite apparent that we were speaking of the same guy. Though life was tough on Dan as an adult, his spirit of enjoying life was there till the end. Dan's wish to literally dance at his son's wedding was fulfilled. His family was always of great import to him. I'll toast him with a beer in September.

Morahan, James

Deceased.

From Pat Gesek Macaluso (5/20/08)
Jimmy was another St. Phil’s pal from younger, carefree days. Even if we didn’t have the same group of friends, we still all got to know each other. Looking back I guess you would say that Jimmy hung around with, what came to be known as, the “hoods." Of course back then I teased my hair, wore mohair sweaters and tight pants so maybe I was one too! Frats came into being in junior high but Jimmy stayed tried and true to his hood roots. After high school, I would run into Jimmy at 7/11 getting coffee in the morning. He still wore a black leather jacket. Jimmy had a wonderful smile. He liked to chat and would bring me up to date on classmates that we knew. I was sorry to see that he passed away and I will remember him fondly.
